Announcement

The 45th Sapporo Marathon scheduled to be held on Sunday, October 11th in 2020 (Reiwa 2), will be cancelled due to the influence of the COVID-19 pandemic.

We are not able to secure a safe and healthy environment for all participants, managing staff members, volunteers, citizens cheering on runners along the course, policemen, and security personnel working to regulate the traffic during the race.

We had been preparing for the race, but we had to make this heartbreaking decision at the Organizing Committee meeting held on May 18th.

This must be a very disappointing announcement for all of the citizens who have looked forward to participating in the race. We genuinely apologize to everyone for falling short of their expectations. We’d like to ask for their understanding in this situation.

We’d like to express our sincerest appreciation to all those concerned who have supported and cooperated with us.

We hope this coronavirus pandemic will be stamped out as soon as possible, and our daily lifestyles will return to normal.
